Oh, we had a baby

Christopher "Kit" Darowski was born back on June 22.  Sorry for the lack of updates.  We'll try to have some more this week.

Duct tape shoes

While I was walking on the treadmill one evening with an episode of Mythbusters on for entertainment, Lizzie wandered into the room.  On the episode, they were trying to survive on a desert island with just duct tape with them.  One of the things the mythbusters did was make shoes for themselves out of duct tape.  Lizzie saw that, and immediately asked me where some tape was.

I alerted Emily to Lizzie's likely intent, and together they crafted some simple duct tape sandles before the episode was over.  Lizzie even took the duct tape sandals to daycare for show and tell...I have no idea what the daycare worker must have thought about that particular item, but I imagine show and tell with a bunch of three-year-olds is always a bit unique.

Let's Go Fly a Kite

Lizzie got a kite for Easter, and once it was in the air she did quite well at keeping it there.  She only lost her grip on the string three times, and miraculously we were able to recover it fairly easily each time.  The real shocking instance was the third time, when I thought it was going to be gone for good, but the string got caught on the basketball hoop and hung on just long enough for me to grab onto it.

I can make thunder!

On Easter morning, amongst the candy there was a Nerf toy of Thor's hammer.  Lizzie saw it and correctly called it Mjolnir (mee-ohl-neer).  I was very proud (this is Joe writing, if you were wondering), but not as proud as when Lizzie waved the hammer over her head and yelled "I can make thunder!"  Later on in the day, she said, "Daddy, you be Odin.  Now tell me if I'm worthy!" as she pretended like she couldn't pick up the hammer.  It will blow her mind when we let her know there's a live action movie of Thor when she's grown up some more.  Presently she knows most of her Thor knowledge from a Little Golden Book about Thor and from the Superhero Squad cartoon.

3/14 - Pie Day

In honor of the fake holiday Pie Day, when we picked Lizzie up from daycare on 3/14 I said we might make a pie. Without missing a beat she pointed at me and, while moving her pointer finger up and down for emphasis said, "We can go to the store and get strawberries and take them home and put them in the pie and make the pie and it will be sooooooooo yummy for me."

So that's what we did.

Here Lizzie is helping make the pie:

Hey, it does snow in Rexburg

After a disgustingly mild winter we got a fair amount of snow on the ground yesterday and today, and Lizzie wasn't about to let the opportunity for snowman construction pass.

And, her snowman building skills are coming along nicely.  She rolled this one entirely by herself:

Until it got a little too big.

At some point, Lizzie and I joked about building a snow puppy instead of a snowman, so we had to give it a try.  Lizzie seemed to like it:

So much so that she gave it a hug that ended up in a beheading:

Building snowmen is hard work:

But there's always a little bit of energy left for snow angels:

Joe had a birthday last month

We will get this up to some sort of up-to-date status at some point (probably just as the baby is born and any semblance of control in our lives disappears completely).

Here are a couple quick pics of Lizzie helping to decorate some cupcakes and helping to open the presents.  She's a great helper.

It's a BOY!!!

I'd publish the proof, but that may be too graphic for sensitive eyes. :) Plus, the cd of ultrasound pics is way across the room and why would I want to get up off the couch?

I guess that Bernat jacquard floral baby blanket I started knitting a month or so ago isn't going to be for this baby. The yarn looked so enticing at the time and I've been thinking girl ever since. Wrong. Sorry buddy- we'll work something out between now and your arrival. And I'll stop referring to you as she. Luckily your hearing is still developing so you shouldn't be too put out.

Hope you all have a great week! We will be discussing names and starting to think about scrounging up a boy wardrobe.  One thing we don't have to worry about obtaining: superhero toys. Yup, we already had a lifetime supply of those even before Lizzie came along. That's just how we roll around here.

Lizzie Birthday Pics!

She turned the big 0-3!  Over a month ago...but hey, better late than never.

A magnetic fishing game, puzzles and books, and getting to camp out in her new princess tent (which she sometimes asks that we put a superhero blanket over so it can be a superhero tent).  What a day!
