Catching up: June 2012

June was not a terribly busy month.

Lizzie played in the mud.

Lizzie won a raffle at a summer fair and got a butterfly net. She loved to run with it (the butterflies remained free despite her best efforts).

There's a park in Rexburg that has a Merry-go-round and a splash pad, which we made frequent use of.

There was Father's Day in the mix.

Oh, and a baby was born. Christopher "Kit" James Darowski was born on the 22nd.

A bit of catching up

So...we've been terrible bloggers.   No point in denying it.

But recently Lizzie has been asking us to look at old blog posts so she can see pictures and videos of her when she was a baby.  Turns out having an online timeline of her life is fairly handy, so we're going to try a bit harder to keep up the blog.  We have some catching up to do, so there'll be some picture heavy posts for a bit.

Starting basically where we left off, May of 2012:

In May we visited Grandma and Grandpa in Utah.  Twice, it seems from the pictures.  Once early in the month and another time when my brother Alex was there with his family.  So Lizzie got to see a lot of the cousins from the Darowski side.  In between, I imagine her parents did a lot of teaching at BYU-Idaho, but we don't really have many pictures of that.  Emily seems to recall that she stayed in Rexburg the second time we went down to Utah due to her latter stages of pregnancy and so that she could grade,

Oh, we had a baby

Christopher "Kit" Darowski was born back on June 22.  Sorry for the lack of updates.  We'll try to have some more this week.

Duct tape shoes

While I was walking on the treadmill one evening with an episode of Mythbusters on for entertainment, Lizzie wandered into the room.  On the episode, they were trying to survive on a desert island with just duct tape with them.  One of the things the mythbusters did was make shoes for themselves out of duct tape.  Lizzie saw that, and immediately asked me where some tape was.

I alerted Emily to Lizzie's likely intent, and together they crafted some simple duct tape sandles before the episode was over.  Lizzie even took the duct tape sandals to daycare for show and tell...I have no idea what the daycare worker must have thought about that particular item, but I imagine show and tell with a bunch of three-year-olds is always a bit unique.

Let's Go Fly a Kite

Lizzie got a kite for Easter, and once it was in the air she did quite well at keeping it there.  She only lost her grip on the string three times, and miraculously we were able to recover it fairly easily each time.  The real shocking instance was the third time, when I thought it was going to be gone for good, but the string got caught on the basketball hoop and hung on just long enough for me to grab onto it.

I can make thunder!

On Easter morning, amongst the candy there was a Nerf toy of Thor's hammer.  Lizzie saw it and correctly called it Mjolnir (mee-ohl-neer).  I was very proud (this is Joe writing, if you were wondering), but not as proud as when Lizzie waved the hammer over her head and yelled "I can make thunder!"  Later on in the day, she said, "Daddy, you be Odin.  Now tell me if I'm worthy!" as she pretended like she couldn't pick up the hammer.  It will blow her mind when we let her know there's a live action movie of Thor when she's grown up some more.  Presently she knows most of her Thor knowledge from a Little Golden Book about Thor and from the Superhero Squad cartoon.
